The shrouded intake system can be set below the well perforations in gassy wells to assist with natural separation and to force the fluid past the motor to keep it cool.
Without the shroud in this application, the fluid would enter the pump intake and not be forced past the motor causing the motor to overheat.
Advantages
- For gassy wells where ESP drawdown pressure is below the bubble point
- Typically used for dewatering gas wells
